DENISE'S YARD

My garden in Naperville, Illinois is a work in progress, like most. I like to experiment with different plants to study their behavior and characteristics. Some of my plants are non-native because they were existing on site or I installed them myself many years ago. I'm not against using a few non-native plants, but I stay away from those that are invasive or those that aren't durable. So I immediately removed my burning bushes, hybrid tea roses, and barberry. Since there are so many benefits to using native plants and so many native plants I'd like to try in the garden, all of my new plantings are native. I am almost out of room!

*Updated* FRONT YARD - My front garden is still under development. Installation began in 2004, including a rain garden.  A permeable front walkway, and attached pergola with recycled deck were installed in 2008.

SIDE YARD - I live on a corner lot. Originally I grew many vegetables in the side yard.  I later relocated the vegetable garden to a sunny spot in the backyard and the prairie garden was gradually installed in its place.

BACKYARD - I have a vegetable garden, compost bins, rain barrels, shrubs for wildlife, and a fire pit council ring. I will add photos later in 2010.
