 WHAT IS A RAIN GARDEN?

A rain garden is specialized native plant garden that captures run-off from your property (usually from a downspouts or sump pump output) and slowly soaks it into the ground (typically in a few hours), rather than letting the water flow into a storm drain.  A rain garden will help filter out pollutants, absorb excess water that could cause flooding and erosion, and replenish our ground water supply.  Why is this important? Native plants, especially the native prairie plants, work together with the soil to act as a giant sponge to absorb  & store water, eventually releasing some of it into the atmosphere or slowly back into the ground, while trapping & breaking down many pollutants.  A rain garden does not breed mosquitoes since water is standing only for a very short period of time and will not cause seepage into your home if designed correctly. It's a simple solution that you can do to help conserve and protect water - an important resource. Good-Natured Landscapes LLC can design a rain garden for you that will not only look beautiful, but will blend in with the rest of your landscape, have the right combination of plants for your site even when it's not raining, and in the right location. We can make a difference, one yard at a time!
