Why
does Good-Natured Landscapes LLC use mostly native plants?
Native plants
have been growing in our specific area for many years and have co-evolved
over long periods of time in
communities with many living and nonliving things. As a result native plants are an important part of
sustainable, functioning ecosystems and provide many benefits. Besides being beautiful, native plants:
- Are adapted to our weather and soil extremes, and the various habitats
found in our
area.
- Provide critical habitat (food,
shelter, nesting) that songbirds, butterflies, and
other local wildlife depend on for
their survival.
- Improve the water quality of our rivers, lakes and streams by
reducing pollutant run-off, flooding, erosion and by recharging our groundwater
supply. Why is this important?
- Save you money.
Eliminate/greatly reduce the amount of money needed for fertilizers,
pesticides, fungicides, herbicides, watering, mowing, aeration, equipment, replacement plants,
etc.
- Improve air quality by eliminating/reducing the need for gas
powered yard equipment.
- Are becoming endangered or threatened because of rapid land
development and the spread of invasive
plants.
- Are dynamic - colors, textures, location, etc.
change according to nature's plan, offering us wonderful surprises on a daily,
weekly, yearly basis.
- Are part of our heritage and
natural history.
What
a thousand acres of Silphiums looked like when they tickled the bellies of
buffalo is a question never again to be answered and perhaps not even
asked.

- Reconnect us with
nature. Imagine a landscape that connects us again with the natural world
that often escapes us during our busy lives, or brings back childhood
memories of a favorite wooded area or patch of prairie. Provide an interesting place where children
today can play,
explore, discover and use their imagination. The benefits of reconnecting
with nature are endless, especially for
children.
