WHEATON BACK YARD PROJECT WITH OAK, SEEDED PRAIRIE, PATIO, AND MORE
This Wheaton backyard has a seeded prairie (fall 2023), native oak tree with “soft landing” garden underneath, living fence of native shrubs, new patio, permeable walkway, herb garden in front of vegetable garden, compost and more.

Close up of seeded prairie first installed in fall 2023. I will post updates in 2025 since a seeded prairie must be cut back the first year (2024) to reduce weed growth.
New patio and walkway from deck (deck not pictured but refer to design plan). Native oak will provide shade to deck and patio nearby once grown. A Soft landing of native plants underneath this oak, provides critical habitat for those wildlife who depend on oaks for part of their lifecycle but also spend part of their lifecycle underneath an oak.
